Cherubs And Chocolates Y'all..............

So bloggers Valentines Day is almost upon us and I thought it would be fitting to blog about this traditional celebration of love. We exchange cards, candy and flowers every February 14th in the name of St. Valentine.

Who is Saint Valentine?
No one really seems to have an answer for this question. There are many legends and you can decide which you would like to believe. Catholics celebrate 3 patron saints named valentine. My favorite legend is this......
Valentine was a priest who served during the third century in Rome. When Emporer Claudius II decided that single men made better soldiers than those with wives and families, he outlawed marriage for young men - his crop of potential soldiers. Valentine, realizing the injustice of this decree, defied Claudius and continued to perform marriages for young lovers in secret. When Valentine's actions were discovered, Claudius ordered that he be put to death.

Cherubs..........

A cherub is a type of divine being mentioned in the Bible, usually understood as a high ranking angel. In my research I could not find any connection between a cherub and Valentines day. Many describe a cherub as a baby angel with a chubby rosy face that shoots a man and then a woman with an arrow. The two will then fall madly in love.

In America we have traded making our own valentines for the ones we can buy from the booming greeting card industry. Many men in today's society feel that this holiday is way too commercialized for their liking and even feel pressure to make no mistakes with their sweethearts on this day.

I would like to salute my roots. Yes friends Valentines Day Southern Style.

Awe... ain't that sweet??????

Oh! Sweetheart you shouldn't have! I'm fixin to give you a smooch!

Purdy...heee....heee....

So friends my advice is simple. Grab that sweetheart and celebrate in a way that is special to the two of you. Men fight the urge to be annoyed with the fact that the holiday has become very commercialized and remember your little gestures mean the world to your gal.

xoxoxo.........
